What is Ocean Rising?
Ocean Rising is an initiative launched by the Schmidt Ocean Institute and Nekton to deepen people’s relationship to the Ocean by galvanizing connections and tangible initiatives within all major sectors of global culture. The aim is to interweave the arts, fashion, sport, music, and more with the undersea world to inspire a new generation of Ocean ambassadors.
What does Ocean Rising do?
We instigate, facilitate, and amplify projects that celebrate the role of the ocean in everyday life. By working alongside industry leaders and partnering with creatives, ambassadors and brands, Ocean Rising helps to embed the ocean into the fabric of culture, sparking events, campaigns, and collaborations that inspire people to love and protect it.
How do you work?
Ocean Rising operates through open, cross-sector collaboration. We unite creatives, brands, sports leaders, creators, designers, artists, storytellers, and innovators co-designing events, creative projects, and campaigns that grow ocean awareness in impactful, engaging ways.

- Fashion designers on ocean research vessels to inspire: Connecting artistic and scientific exploration

- First Light Festival, Lowestoft: Ocean-themed programming with Messums Gallery, reaching 5,000+
- Goodwood Festival of Speed – Future Lab: STEM and ocean storytelling for young audiences
